Ogden Home Nurse Course Faces Textbook Shortage Chairman Makes Appeal for Used training Manuals A second Red Cross agency was faced today with the possible cur¬tailment of a needed activity through shortage of textbooks, it was revealed by Mrs. L. W. Overstreet, chairman of home nurses' training. The branch office at San Fran¬cisco has entirely depleted its stock of home nursing texts, just as it has disbursed all its first aid textbooks, because of the sudden increase of activity, brought about by the entrance of the United States into the war. Women who have taken the course and have textbooks they will be willing to let others use are requested to telephone 4902. A good sale for second-hand books is also promised. The books are needed because Weber county chapter has been re¬quested to train 179 women in home nursing. The state as a whole has been assigned a quota of 1,950 trainees. Twelve Lessons The home nursing course, which prepares women in the practical nursing field for work in their homes, so as to cut down on the number of trained nurses needed outside hospitals, will include 12 lessons of two hours each. The class will be organized Friday at seven-thirty p. m. in room 201 of Central building at Weber col¬lege. "The Red Cross home nursing program will make every woman who takes it of greater value to her country and better prepared to meet any emergency," said Mrs. Overstreet. "The course will make her a better mother, more capable of protecting her home against the ravages of disease, as well as teaching her to protect herself and her home in the interests of her country's safety." Teachers Chosen Teachers of the home nursing classes which will be organized Friday evening are Mrs. Leslie C. West, Mrs. James M. DeVine, Mrs. Minerva Hadley and Mrs. H. Earl Rushmer. Miss Ruth I. Ellis, Red Cross nursing consultant, will be here Friday to assist in arranging the program, for which members of the home nursing committee are seeking additional instructors, Mrs. Overstreet declared. |
