The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show ARC 688 Rev. June, 1941 Between January, 1940, and June, 1941, approximately 200,- children's garments and other articles were made by members of the American Junior Red Cross as part of the American Red Cross Production Program for foreign War Relief. The record is impressive not only for the quantity of work, but also for the fine quality. Through individualized design and trimmings the young people who made the garments have expressed their love and sympathy for the children who received them. Hundreds of thank-you notes like these below have shown that the recipients sensed the spirit of good-will that went into the work: "Thank you very much for the splendid clothes you sent—they are very comfortable and they keep me warm. As you know, a lot of our parents have been bombed out but they still keep their chins up. We tell them about you giving us clothes and they say it is very good of you. "My age is eleven and my name is Kenneth Rains.. I shall always think about you and I will never forget your Red Cross. must leave now so—cheerio, and all the best. Yours sincerely, Ken" |
