Description |
The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show 2 If not needed for projects in other cities, is declared surplus and turned over to the Procurement Division of the Treasury Department, If no other government agency has a need for the machines, the Procurement Division then disposes of them by sale. Recently the Procurement Division advised us that they had a number of machines on hand in certain states and would be glad to land them to our chapters if the individual chapter requests were approved by National Headquarters. The machines are of various types and, as a rule, are in good serviceable condition. Loans, of course, must be made on an indefinite basis with the machines being subject to recall at any time, but there seems little likelihood that their return would be requested in the near future. Chapters may have to assume the cost of transportation from the nearest Produrement Division warehouse, but in some cases it may be possible to arrange to ship by government trucks. In view of the fact that it will probably become more and more difficult to purchase sewing machines and because we do not know how much lies ahead of us in the production field, this offer on the part of the procurement Division is well worth consideration. If your chapter wishes to apply for a loan, please advise this office indicating the number of machines you now have on hand, how urgent is the need for additional machines, how many are desired, and the name and address of the chapter official who will be responsible for their custody. The Procurement Division can give no assurance that the loan will be made as the number of machines available in some states is very small, but if your chapter could use additional machines, it would seem to be worth while at least sending in an application. SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS FOR GARMENTS AND ARTICLES FOR THE U.S. ARMED FORCES: Unless specific instructions were given at the time the quota was assigned you should always write Area Headquarters for shipping instructions on all garments and articles for the U.S. Armed Forces when they are ready for shipment. Requirements change rapidly with the movement of troops and and this procedure is the best method we have at present for meeting the emergency calls that come in from time to time and permits us to distribute the supplies available according to the urgency of the requests from the Field Directors. This applies to garments, etc. for both the able-bodied and for the hospitalized men. When advising Area Headquarters that garments are ready for shipment, please specify the number and color. In case of Red Cross kits or ditty bags, give the color and state whether the kits are filled or unfilled. Unless otherwise specified, shipments should be made via the cheapest way. Packing list, Form 1639, should be used and copies should be mailed to the consignee and to Area Headquarters promptly so that they will be received before the supplies themselves reach their destination. ALWAYS PREPAY SHIPMENTS FOR U.S. ARMED FORCES. |
