The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show ARC 400-6 Sept. 1939 Code H5 OPERATING GOWN Material Findings Twill jean or bleached muslin ½ inch or 5/8 inch tape, chapter label, No. 60 thread. Instructions for Making Hems All hems 1 inch when finished. Back hems made on the outside of the garment. Hems at the bottom and sleeve on the inside.. Seams All seams felled on outside of garment. Armhole seam, body over the sleeve. The center front has a dart extending from the collar down. This gives a smooth front. When used the front facing should cover it. The bust size of the garment may be increased by gathers at the neck instead of making the dart. Collar A standing band about 18-1/2 inches long when finished. Tapes The underarm tape, which is used as a belt, is best made of material same as the garment and should be about 45 inches long. 5/8 inch wide, edges turned in end stitched all around. Back tapes out 18 inches long then cut on a bias through the middle for the ends. The sleeve tapes 18 or 20 inches long with ends out on the bias. This prevents rolling. Location of the tapes. Three (3) sets on backs. The upper set on the lower edge of collar and the others down the back 9 inches apart. The underarm tapes are fastened 8 inches below the armhole. The tapes on sleeves are placed about 2-1/2 inches from edge of the sleeve and sewed half-way around the front side. (over) |
