FOREWORD The Production Corps is the oldest and the largest of all the Volunteer Special Services of the American Red Cross. The require¬ments of membership are simple and there are no age limits. The work is neither spectacular nor exciting, but in its accomplishment there is tangible evidence of service rendered: a pile of surgical dressings, a knitted sweater, a baby's layette—all destined to fill some human need. Its members are legion. They are old and young, rich and poor, from every walk and condition of life, all motivated by the same idea of service. The sum total of work produced by this corps since the beginning of the war, translated into actual hours of labor, presents a stagger¬ing figure. Every production worker should view this accomplish¬ment with pride and satisfaction. It has been achieved through individual effort and sacrifice and devotion.
