Show Fire Fighters Complete First Aid Training Course EMBLEMS…Four of the eight Ogden city firemen who recently completed the American Red Cross standard course in first aid are shown above receiving their arm emblems from Probationary Fireman Ernest Wall (right) accredited Red Cross instructor who taught the class. Left to right they are Driver A. W. Stegan, Driver Harold Mack, Probationary Fireman Norman Austad and Liet. C. E. Mueller. ROOKIE BRINGS RESCUE ABILITY TO DEPARTMENT Firemen Learn How to Act Efficiently In Accident Cases Addition of Ernest Wall to the fire department of Ogden city recently did more than provide the department with an extra man if also assured the department that it would have an accredited first aid instructor. Wall, still on probation with the department, has just completed giving eight members of the force 25 hours of instruction, making them eligible to wear the official emblem of the Red Cross on their sleeves. Must Renew Rights Every member of the fire department has now had first aid training, reported Chief Owen A. Owens, but all but the eight men just trained by Wall will have to take the work again to renew their certification. Wall expects to start at once with a new class of standard training. The probationer is also eligible to teach advanced first aid training. Those who received their arm emblems last week are Liet. Jay V. Jensen, LIetu. C. E. Mueller Driver A. W. Stegan, Driver Harold Mack, Firemen Clarence Braegger and James A. Brown and Probationary Firemen Norman Austad and Tom Taylor. Termed Valuable “More than once the knowledge firemen have of first aid has helped in avoiding serious and permanent injury to persons caught in fires, and many times their knowledge has been credited with saving lives,” the chief said. “The fire department is glad to have an experienced first aid instructor available at all times. His work has been highly beneficial to the efficiency of the force.” Chief Owens said he would require every member of the force to renew or obtain his advanced first aid certificate. Plans to Confer With Weber Unit ALLEN KOLB…Here in August Allen E. Kolb, general field representative of the American Red Cross for the state of Utah, will visit Weber county chapter August 7 to 10, it was announced Saturday by the Red Cross Pacific branch office at San Francisco. Mr. Kolb, a native of Indiana, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of University of Chicago. Before joining the Red Cross, he was director of the California state relief administration in six counties for five years; was the San Francisco public welfare department and was grand supervisor of the farm security administration. An experienced social worker Mr. Kolb has had much experience with problems surrounding large public works programs and migatory agricultural workers. Several meetings of chapter or¬ganizations are planned while Mr. Kolb is here. The disaster com¬mittee will probably hold one meet¬ing, and the directors will likely meet with Mr. Kolb. Plans for in¬dustrial first aid organization as a national defense move will be discussed by Mr. Kolb and Roy Lofgreen, local chairman of first aid. |
