At the conclusion of tonight’s class, each of the students will receive a teaching assignment from Kent S. Bramwell, director of first aid instruction in Weber county. Commends Work “It is unusual for any chapter to have more classes than it has instructors.” Raney said today. “And it is unusual for a city to have ient demandfor classes at ose of an instructor training course to place each student in charge of a class at once. The first aid program in this chapter is one of the best organized I know. The chapter is doing commendable work.” At ient, 121 first aid classes are being conducted in the county, giving training to 3,487 people. The classes include 21 junior, 99 standard and one advanced courses. Requests for 80 additional classes have been received. The students who graduate as instructors tonight will be first assigned to classes demanded by the civilian defense program, Mr. Bramwell said. All chapter officials, city and county commissioners and others active in the civilian defense program have been invited to the reception. With the special request from the general presidency of the L. all Relief society members who all Reliev society members who have completed advanced work, will take the instructor course so- they can teach first aid to the respec¬tive groups. Last year, nearly 300 school teachers qualified as standard first aiders. Under the policy of the National Red Cross, teachers may attend the instructor course fol¬lowing the standard course, due to their training in pedagogy. "We hope every teacher will take this opportunity to qualify as an instructor, so first aid might be taught as part of their school cur¬riculum," Kent S. Bramwell, direc¬tor of first aid, reports. Bramwell will teach the instruc¬tor class. INSTRUCTORS IN FIRST AID TO MEET MONDAY Water Safety Diplomas Are Issued to 521 Children All instructors in Red Cross first aid have been asked to meet Monday night at seven p.m. in the Central building of Weber college, for instruction and demonstrations relative to the courses to be taught this fall, Kent S. Bramwell, director of first aid advises. “We shall review the teaching methods of the past, give suggestions and demonstrations of teaching procedure, and ward the end of making our first-aid classes very interesting.” Mr. Bramwell reports. First aid classes have been going on all summer. One of the largest groups now taking instruction are the boys of the industrial school. Up to date over 5,800 people have been trained in this community. “We expect that before the year is over more than 10,000 trained first aiders will have qualified in this chapter,” Mr. Bramwell advises. As of August 1, the Weber county chapter began issuing their own first aid and water safety certificates. This recognition has come through the comprehensive program and organization in the first aid department. As a result, first aiders who complete their courses in one week will meet for suggestions and correction on examinations, and be given their certificates by the instructor the following week. A monthly report just submitted to national and chapter officials shows: during the last two months 521 children have been taught to swim, 89 are classified as intermediate swimmers, and 10 as swimmers; 27 have qualified as senior life-savers and 11 as junior life-savers. This “Learn to Swim” campaign will continue on through August at the Weber gymnasium and municipal swimming pool. Classes are being conducted for both old and young. Anyone interested in joining one of these classes are requested to call the Weber gymnasium or the municipal pool for details.
