Description |
The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show ARC 400-5E Sweater, Size 2 ARC 400-9B Beanie, Small Size ARC 400-16 Mittens, Small Size Packing Instructions: When the garments for a Toddler Pack have been completed and are ready to be assembled in a set, they should be folded neatly and tied together. If a standard packing case is used, the individual packs need not be wrapped. However, if your Chapter is not using the regulation packing cases, please have each Toddler Pack wrapped separately in Kraft paper, and indicate on the outside the code number, L-4. Further suggestions regarding the making of Toddler Packs will be found in ARC 400-21. BOYS' SHORTS: The Red Cross has recommended the purchase of a navy blue or gray woolen cheviot for use in making the shorts. It is recom¬mended that these garments be lined throughout with an unbleached muslin or a similar type fabric. The muslin should be washed be¬fore cutting to insure full shrinkage. USE OF SCRAP MATERIAL: Should Chapters sell scraps of cotton and woolen material from cloth furnished by the Government and use the proceeds for the purchase of findings and other expenses in connection with the production program? Sales of this kind often result in criticism by persons who do not know all of the facts. We feel it unwise to sell this material and have listed below ways in which it can be used to advantage. Heavy Woolen Scraps: Very attractive lap robes, quilts, and blankets have been made by working out a design from pieces of woolen material. These have been sewed or crocheted together. Children's skirts with a varying number of gores can be made from long narrow scraps that are left when the regular production garments have been cut. Warm gloves and mittens have been made from woolen piece goods. Bedroom slippers with soles of double thickness and card¬board inner soles have been effectively made. Small jumper vests and bolero jackets might be made where there are sizeable scrap pieces. Some Chapters have made small hoods, caps, and berets from left-over woolen piece goods. Cotton Scraps: The layette outing flannel scraps have been used to make patchwork quilts to be included in the layettes. It is suggested that where such quilted baby blankets are made, they should be made double thickness. The layette outing flannel has also been used in making bootees and bibs which may be included in the layettes. Some Chapters have made very attractive infants' caps from the same material, and these too may be included in the layettes. Yarn Scraps: Afghan squares and mittens. 6 GARMENT LABELS: Chapter labels should be placed in all garments produced. Labels can be purchased through National Headquarters for 20c per hundred. The size of the garment should also be indicated either on this garment label or on a separate tag. INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOLDING, BUNDLING AND TYING: Garments of the same size should be folded neatly and bundled together in small lots. On the top of each bundle a slip should be pinned giving the name of the article and the sizes included.
