MACLEISH Assistant National Director of Red Cross Volunteer Group to Speak Tuesday Headed by Mrs. Dwight Davis national director of Volunteer Services, delegates arrive here tomorrow for the conference of the American Red Cross com¬mittee on volunteer service, which opens Tuesday and con¬tinues through Thursday. Registration of delegates is to be made at the Town House, with Red Cross staff assistants aiding in the work. Chief speaker at the openin; ? meeting Tuesday morning in th< \faltern Theater will be Mrs MRS. ARCHIBALD MACLEISH Red Cross Official Archibald MacLeish, assist ant national director. Mrs. MacLeish, who is chair¬man for camp service work, will discuss the activities of Red Cross women volunteers in Army and Navy posts and stations. One of America's outstanding women, Mrs. MacLeish resided in New York until she moved to Washington when her husband, the distinguished poet, was li¬brarian of the Library of Con¬gress. MacLeish later was named to head the Office of Facts anfi Figures. Roundtable discussions of Red Cross services are to be con¬ducted Tuesday afternoon at the Los Angeles chapter house, fol¬lowing a luncheon in the chapter patio for delegates, volunteers md staff members. Members of the Red Cross -anteen Corps are to serve mcheon to the delegates Wednesday at the U p 1 i f t e r s rove in Rustic Canyon. A tour f the National Military Home iospital in Sawtelle will follow. Red Cross 3-Day Conference Opens Tomorrow A three day conference of the American Red Cross National Committee on Volunteer Service will open here tomorrow with more than 1000 Red Cross volunteers present to welcome delegates and tp pay honor to the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. Sessions will be held at the WIltern Theater, Town House and chapter headquarters. Mayor Fletcher Bowron, Major General Maxwell Murray, U.S.A. Rear Admiral I.C. Johnson, U.S.N., and Major J.P. Schwerin, U.S.M.C., will be honor guests. They will be introduced by Gurney E. Newlin, chairman of the Local Red Cross chapter. Singing of the “The Star Spangled Banner” will be led by Mme. Dusoline Giannini, Metropolitan Opera star. Mrs. Dwight Davis, national director of volunteer services, and her assistants, will be welcomed by Mrs. Lyman Henry Johnson, local chapter chairman of volunteer services and national committee member. Mrs. Davis will speak on Red Cross activities nationally, and Mrs. Archibald MacLeish, assistant nal director of camp and hospital service, will talk on Red Cross services to the armed forces. |
