Description |
The Weber County Chapter of the Red Cross began in December 1915 when a small group of individuals gathered to begin organizing a chapter of the Red Cross. In 1962, the name was changed to the Bonneville chapter, and in 1969, the chapter merged with other chapters in Northern Utah to become the Northern Utah Chapter, with its headquarters located in Ogden, Utah. The scrapbooks range from 1940 to 2003 and highlight some of the important work of the Red Cross. The books include photographs, newspaper clippings, and other materials. |

Show COPY AMERICAN RED CROSS Pacific Area Civic Auditorium San Francisco, California April 24, 1942 TO: Chapter Chairmen FROM: Manager SUBJECT: War Relief Production CARTONS FOR PACKING AND SHIPPING SURGICAL DRESSINGS AND GARMENTS: For some time we have had under consideration the use of a standard carton for packing and shipping surgical dressings and garments. The carton is 24” x 24” x 18”, inside measurements, (6 cubic feet capacity), the exact size of that used by the Army for packing surgical dressings, but of a better quality and one that could, in an emergency, be used for export shipments. Two of those cartons will be equivalent in packing space to one of the standard wooden cases which contains 12 cubic feet. The cost of two cartons would be less than one-half the average cost of one wooden case. The weight of two cartons would be about one-sixth and this should result in a considerable saving in transportation charges. Until recently it has been impossible to secure delivery of cartons in quantity, but we have finally succeeded in arranging with a contractor to make a special lot for sale to chapters. Orders should be sent direct to the Agar Container Division of the International Paper Company at Chicago, Illinois, or to the Agar Container should be accompanied by a check or money order in payment for the cartons. The company does not feel it can undertake the expense of handling charge accounts or making C.O.D. shipments. Cartons will be sold in lots of 25 or multiples thereof, that is, 25, 50, 75, or 100, etc., at $.431 each, f.o.b. shipping point. The transportation charges on those shipments are to be paid by the chapter, and shipments will go forward from the factories the cheapest way, collect, unless otherwise specified on the chapter’s order. We believe the majority of chapters will find it very much to their advantage to use these cartons. In addition to the saving in coat and the saving in transportation charges, the cartons will be more convenient to handle, it will be easier to pack one item to a case, etc. IN the near future it is probable that surgical dressing quotas will be revised, and if this is done chapters will be requested to use these cartons for packing surgical dressings. LOAN OF WPA AND NYA SEWING MACHINES: Chapters in need of sewing machines may from time to time be able to secure the loan of WPA and NYA sewing machines which have been turned in for salvage. When WPA and NYA sewing projects are discontinued, their equipment. |
