COMMUNITY AID BY RED GROSS IS PARLEY TOPIC Field Representative Outlines Needs of Greater Army Increased demands of home serv¬ice workers brought on by ex¬panding military and naval organ¬izations were discussed at a north¬ern Utah gathering of Red Cross officials today in the Utah Power auditorium by Allen E. Kolb of San Francisco, general field rep¬resentative. The welfare and personnel work of chapter members have increased by about 50 per cent as a result of absence from home of hundreds of young men drawn into the na¬tion's fighting services, Mr. Kolb said. The discussions were to con¬tinue through this afternoon. Attending the meeting were home service committee workers from Cache, Morgan, Box Elder and Weber counties. They are to take back to their communities informa¬tion regarding Red Cross accom-modations for service men. Mr. Kolb said the Red Cross aids in obtaining emergency fur¬loughs due to death or other trou¬ble at home, arranging dependency discharges for draftees needed at home to support a family and other services where both the home and service men are concerned. Another phase of the work, he said, is to persuade soldiers and sailors who go "A. W. O. L." vol¬untarily to return to their posts. If they fail to do this, he said, they are classified as deserters and punished severely. Six other regional conferences are scheduled in Utah before Mr. Kolb leaves the state, he said.
