Show MONDAY EVENING, DECEMBER 29, 1941 LEADERS NAMED TO START FUND DRIVE IN 1942 Red Cross-Chest Heads Select Duo to Lead Men and Women Appointment of Carl C. Gaskill, Insurance executive, and Mrs. G. J. Carroll, deputy commissioner of the Girl Scout council of Ogden, to head the men's and women's sales armies of the Ogden city Red Cross-community chest campaign was announced today by Fred A. Kuhlmann, associate chairman. Solicitation will begin January 16. Mr. Gaskill has been active in chest work since its organization and served for two years as treas¬urer of the Weber county chapter of the Red Cross. He is a mem¬ber of the Rotary club and cham¬ber of commerce, and through the latter has taken an active part in civic affairs for many years. Mrs. Carroll is a member of the Women's Civic club, Women's Safety council of Ogden, Legisla¬tive council of Ogden and Interna¬tional Relations Study club. Captains Named Mr. Gaskill announced the fol¬lowing as captains to serve with him during the campaign: H. W. Hinley, bank executive, who also will serve as associate chairman; William J. Blackburn, real estate firm head; William Ludden, insur¬ance; Louis T. Bass, petroleum company executive. Mrs. Carroll said she will announce her cap¬tains in a few days. "More intensive sales effort will be necessary this year," Mr. Kuhl¬mann said, "as it will be absolute¬ly essential that contributions from all citizens be increased more than 50 per cent over what they were last year if this community is to meet its quota of Red Cross war relief and to meet adequately chest requirements. Voluntary Forces "The general soliciting organiza¬tion work of this campaign is being equally divided between men and women as voluntary forces. Both men's and women's divisions will consist of four teams each with approximately 60 workers. They will handle all solicitation work in the city, except in firms organized for internal solicitation. The men's field will be concentrat¬ed in the business area among small business firms and offices, including those of professional men and women. Women workers will handle solicitation throughout the residential section of the city. "Both divisions are now enlist¬ing their team leaders and will be completely mobilized within the coming two weeks. Active solicita¬tion work will get under way Fri¬day, January 16." They Head Solicitors in Campaign CAPTAINS . . . Carl C. Gaskill and Mrs. G. J. Carroll were appointed today by Fred A. Kuhlmann, associate chairman of the annual Red Cross-community chest campaign, to head the men's and women's division of solicitors, respectively. Their groups will begin active solicitation Jan. 16. County Soliciting Crew Organized By Red Cross Joint Funds Campaign With Community Chest Underway Organization of Weber county, outside Ogden city, for the annual Red Cross roll call and war relief campaign was begun Friday by L. Wesley Robbins, chairman, and William P. Miller, vice chairman, of this phase of the local Red Cross-community chest effort. “Workers will be assigned in every L. D. S. ward outside the city,” Mr. Robbins said, “in order that the opportunity will be afforded every member of all homes in the county to contribute to this year’s campaign fund. Every man, woman and child must become conscious of the great need for support of the Red Cross effort at this time. We are confident that this county’s quota of the $50,000,000.00 national fund will be over subscribed when the people realize the importance of it now.” Under chairmanship of George L. Ellerbeck, the military division of the Red Cross-chest campaign has been organized and is already functioning, Under this division, five groups have been assigned to the fund solicitation work at Hill field, Ogden ordnance depot, constructing quartermaster offices at Utah general supply depot, Utah area engineers headquarters offices. A.J. Bybee, purchasing agent under Lieutenant Colonel William L. Mays, and W. J. Kinner, personnel manager, are in charge of the campaign work at Utah general depot. W. D. Jordan, superintendent of construction, together with his secretary, Miss June Shupe, of the constructing quartermaster general’s personnel, under command of Lieutenant Colonel Elmer G.
