Show ARC 400-2 Sept. 1939 Code K 1 Medium Size Sock 4 Red Cross Neeldes No. 1 (Diameter, 1/8 inch. Wool, ¼ pound) Sock, when finished, should measure: Foot, 11/12 inches; leg, 14 inches 56 stitches on three needles; 20 on 1st needle, 20 on 2nd needle, 16 on 3rd needle. (K-knit; St. –stitch; P-purl.) K 2, P2, for 3 inches. K plain 8 inches. Heel: Divide stitches, 28 on 1st needle (for heel), 14 on 2nd needle, 14 on 3rd needle, 1st needle (*) K1 row, Turn, P 1 row, Turn. Repeat form (8) until you have 27 rows. Always slip first stitch. Begin to turn heel on wrong side. To turn heel: Slip 1, P 15, P 2 together, P a, Turn. Slip 1, K 5, Slip 1, K1, pass slipped st. over k st., K 1, Turn. Slip 1, P 6, P 2 together. P 1 Turn. Slip 1, K 7, Slip 1, K1, pass slipped st. over k st., K 1, Turn. Slip 1, P *, P 2 together, P 1, Turn. Slip 1, K 9, Slip 1, K1, pass slipped st. over k st., K 1, Turn. Continue until there are 16 stitches on needle. Gusset: Pick up 13 stitches on side of heel. (1st needle) K stitches of 2nd and 3rd needles on to one needle. ( 2nd needle) Pick up 13 stitches on other side of heel, and take 8 stitches form 1st needle. (3rd needle) 1st needle. (A) K to within 3 stitches of end, K 2 togethers, K 1. 2nd needle. (B) K plain 3rd needle. © K1, Slip 1, K1, pass lsipped st. over k st. F to end. (D) K around plain Repeat A, B, C, D, until you have: 14 stitches on 1st needle, 28 stitches on 2nd needle, 14 stitches on 3rd needle. K plain until foot measures 9 inches. Kitchener Toe: 1st needle. € K to within 3 stitches of end, K 2 together K 1. 2nd needle (F) K 1, Slip 1, K 1, pass slipped st. over k st. K to within 3 stitches of end, E 2 together, K1. 3rd needle. (G) K 1, Slip 1, K1, pass slipped st. over k st., K to end. (H) K 2 rows plain Repeat E, F, G, H, 3 times (making 4 times in all). Then narrow every other row 5 times. K the 5 stitches of your 1st needle on to your 3rd needle. Break wool (leaving 12-inch length); thread into worsted needle. Hold sock so that the worsted needle is at your right and, always keeping wool under knitting needles, weave front and back together as follows: (*) Pass wrosted needle through 1st stitch off the knitting needle. Pass through 2nd stitch as if purling-leave stitch on. Pass through 1st stitch of back needle as if purling-slip stitch off. Pass through 2nd stitch of back needle as if knitting-leave stitch on. Repeat from (*) until all stitches are off needles. To avoid ridge across and of too, weave end of wool down side. Chapter Label-to be sewed loosely on inside of top of one stocking. (over) |
