This selection was made for us in the Bureau of Home Economics, United States Department of Agriculture. The names and numbers of the patterns listed are given in order that Chapters may purchase them locally. Please keep in mind that the patterns listed are examples of the type of pattern to choose. Other patterns can be substituted. It is well to test muslin models of all patterns before cutting in quantities. Before purchasing quantities of patterns, consult the people who will do the cutting. Often suitable patterns can be secured from the homes of volunteers. This will save the Chapter expense and the workers will prefer using patterns with which they are familiar. When your patterns have been decided upon, choose the exact style to be used, eliminating the extra pieces. In choosing the style, keep in mind that you want a garment easy to sew, launder and keep in repair without sacrificing its appearance.
