Show 2 As you will note, no knitted garments are included in your quota. Our survey of garments on hand or in process of production showed that the supply of knitted articles would probably be sufficient to meet future needs for some time to come and in view of the shortage of yanr in this country, it has been decided to discontinue temporarily the distribution of yarn for foreign war relief production. If you feel that you can accept a larger quota than that suggested, we hope you will indicate that fact on the quota sheet. If after replies have been received from all chapters we find that there is a surplus of material, an additional allotment will then be made your chapter. ON the other hand, if it is impossible for your chapter to accept the quota in full, it will be entirely satisfactory for you to select certain items for production and omit others. Please bear in mind, however, that no additional material is likely to be made available for distribution during the coming year. Participation by the Junior Red Cross in this program should be encouraged to the fullest extent. It is suggested that your production chairman confor with the Junior Red Cross chairman and take into consideration the material that will be required by the Junior Red Cross for its production program next fall and winter. Attached to this letter are a number of momranda containing information regarding types of material furnished, patterns for now garments, changes in patterns called for by War Department Board regulations, shipping instructions, and other information of a general nature. All of this should be carefully road by your production chairman. Those memoranda contain answers to questions that may arise and suggestions which we believe you will find helpful. In you circular letter of January 15,1942, WRA-15, chapters located in coastal states and at interior points where special hazards exist because of type of industries were advised that application might be made to delay temporarily the shipment of a limited quantity of finished garments and to hold those in chapter storerooms as a reserve stock to be used in case of serious disaster or war emergency. If your chapter falls within this class, you can secure authorization to retain a limited supply of the garments covered by the attached quota provided application is made to Area Headquarters. I would appreciate it if you would call your production committee together and give this letter immediate consideration. A prompt reply will simplify our problems and yours in commotion with the shipment of material. A. L. Shafer Manager |
