The February Senior's Health newsletter focused on heart health, as February is American Heart Month. Physical activity is one of the key factors to ideal cardiovascular health, yet only 15% of U.S. adults achieve the recommended 150 or more minutes per week of moderate aerobic exercise. Over time aerobic exercise can help decrease heart rate, improve your blood pressure at rest, and improve your breathing. The best valentine you can give is a healthy loving heart! A Letter to the Editor written by Willie Salinas of North Ogden, appeared in the Standard Examiner on February 9th. Mr. Salinas thanked those who helped his 80-year old father who had become disoriented on January 13, 2015. His father is diabetic and had gone to have some blood drawn on that day, but he became disoriented when he left the clinic and was unable to return back home. When Mr. Salinas learned of the situation he finally located his father on 1200 West in Marriott-Slaterville, where paramedics and others were attending him, as his blood sugar levels were extremely low. On Saturday, February 14, 2015 The Standard Examiner featured a picture of Gary Phillis burning palm fronds down to ash for Ash Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Marriott-Slaterville. The church saves the leaves from the previous year's Palm Sunday services for use in the following year's holiday. |
