Show Marriott-Slaterville City History August 2015 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History August 2015 On Friday, August 7, 2015, severe thunderstorms coupled with heavy wind brought side-ways rain throughout the Wasatch Front that caused power outages affecting as many as 7,000 people. A severe thunderstorm warning from the National Weather Service said that winds near 70 mph were discovered by Doppler radar in the storm that traveled eastward at 45 mph over Northern Utah. Scott Van Leeuwen, City Council President, explained the two separate branches of government within the city. The Executive Branch is led by the Mayor, which handles the daily operation of the city, appoints officials, proposes the budget, responds to violations and complaints, manages parks, implements policies and services, and takes care of planning and zoning. The Legislative Branch is led by a five-member Council which makes laws, adopts the budget, authorizes contracts, sets tax rates, confirms appointments, and exercises oversight. Two members of the City Council are elected from the East District, and two from the West District, with one member being elected At-Large. President Van Leeuwen reported that the City Council recently adopted the Mayor's balanced budget for 2015-16. The City has no debt, no property tax and no bonds. City Staff work hard on grants and other projects all year. Our roads are generally in good shape, our parks are maintained and our Planning Commissions works hard to control growth while still affording property rights. This summer we have had a good water supply resulting in no need to implement drought restrictions. Everyone is encouraged to implement water conservation practices as well. Planning Commission Meeting-August 18, 2015 The Commission approved an amendment submitted byJayne Ralston in the Riverside Estates Subdivision to change the lot lines between two lots in the subdivision. This is a lot realignment of two previously developed lots and will remain as two. The approval is pending approval by the City Council, A Public Hearing was held on an application to amend the zoning map from A-l to C2-P at 517 N 2000 W by Murray Family Holdings, LLC. This property consists of about 1.4 acres located directly north of Maverik. The developer wants to amend the zoning to C2-P for commercial development. The Commission approved the amendment and forwarded to the City Council for final approval. Commission and staff follow-up: Mr. Morris reviewed new requirements from Bona Vista consisting of a Letter of Availability and Will Serve which will be required for new developments/subdivisions within the City. Sierra RV has received their Building Permit and is proceeding with construction. Diamond Rental will also be proceeding with their development on 1200 South. The Upland Ranches subdivision has run into several problems which are delaying the development. The Morris Meadows developers stated previously that they would proceed if Sierra RV began their development, but as of yet they have not. |
