Show 14A Sunday, February 22, 2015 Standard Examiner Microburst blamed in 11-vehicle Ogden pileup OGDEN — Amy Ivie was driving a'U-Haul moving van across the 12th Street overpass on Interstate 15 when she said it got slick. "I just slowed down and drove straight through, but I saw in my rear view mirrors other people were sliding and hitting the barrier," said Ivie. Ivie was moving from Salt Lake City to Logan on Saturday. She was crossing the overpass shortly after 1 p.m. when a reported 11 vehicles traveling north either slid into each other or hit the concrete barrier on the bridge. Ivie said it was snowing at the time. The vehicle she was driving was not involved in the accident. Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. John Ely said three people in one car, two adults and a 6-month-old baby, were transported by ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital. The 25-year-old woman passenger in the car received significant injuries to .her head and upper torso and was in critical condition. The infant was in a car seat, which was secured, and was not injured. Ely said the baby was transported to a hospital as a precaution First respbnders assess a wreck involving several vehicles near the 12th Street exit of Interstate 15 in pgdenon Saturday. Motorists were driving on a dry interstate when a "microburst storm" hit the area and they were suddenly driving on an icy road, causing one car to lose control, starting a chain-reaction wreck. |
