The recreational vehicle busi- ness, currently on 17 acres at 1200 N. Main St. in Sunset, will be breaking ground on its new site in Weber County sometime next week. "Davis County does not like to see any business such as Sierra RV leave the county," Community and Economic Development Director Marlin Eldred told the Standard-Examiner on Friday. "That being said, it was a business decision where they needed room for growth and expansion," he said. After almost 20 years, the RV sales company is leaving its Sun set location for a new spot off Interstate 15 and 12th Street, north of the Pilot service station. Sierra RV co-owner Jared Jensen said he was to finalize the deal Friday. Jensen said the business could only use about 12 of the 17 acres at its Sunset location because of a canal, green space and roads. The new 45-acre location in Weber County will give the family-owned business room to add an RV park resort. Sunset "is looking to backfill the (Sunset) location with another business," Eldred said. But despite the incoming business, as well as the Maverik convenience store and two new used-car dealerships that will soon open in Sunset, as mentioned by Mayor Beverly Macfarlane, Eldred said the city will feel the sales tax revenue pinch of the RV business leaving. Davis County continues to work with all of its businesses in an effort to retain those businesses, Eldred said. Eldred Macfarlane said previous councils did work with Sierra--—. RV, but when the business asked to be able to expand into a portion of nearby South Park, residents opposed the idea. Sierra RV employs 54 workers at its Sunset location and will be expanding that number to 68 upon the completion of its new RV center in Weber County. Sierra RV moved from Ogden to Sunset in 1997.
