Show Drake Stewart ties leather braces on the arms of Sabrina Iverson, of South Jordan. Stewart, of Colorado, runs Dragon Bait Armory, one of several shops at the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire, open this weekend at 3105 W. Pioneer R in Marriott-Slaterville. The event concludes today. Festival From 9A has also translated and published a renaissance text on the use of the English longsword. "I've always been very interested in medieval history, and I've always been a martial artist," he said. He doesn't do longsword demonstrations at renaissance faires, he said, because it's not the right venue. "It's an intense discipline," he said. Calvin Jones does demonstrate combat techniques at the festival and shared a few tips with 15- year-old Chris Tanner, of West Valley City. Jones and Tanner attacked each other with foam swords, and Jones also showed how a shield could be used as both self-defense and a weapon. Tanner said he came to the festival with his family mostly because he wanted to eat some turkey legs. Ashby, of Clearfield, makes chain mail for shoppers at the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire. |
