Show MONDAY MEMORIES: Defense Depot Ogden early years By CARMEN LOPEZ Standard-Examiner staff This week's Monday Memories takes a glance at the unique history of Defense Depot Ogden. The U.S. military installation covered 1,128 acres with its southeast corner on 12th Street and Tomlinson Avenue, and its eastern border presently owned by the Union Pacific Railroad. Its purpose was to receive, store, maintain, keep inventory and issue many items, including food, clothing, petroleum products, and general medical, industrial, construction and electronic supplies. During World War II, DDO was also utilized as an internment camp for German and Italian prisoners of war. The DDO premises also included an officers' club, military housing and an Army & Air Force Exchange Service store, setting the scene for a cozy neighborhood. Indeed, the DDO fulfilled many purposes we can look back on and he proud of. Photos and captions are courtesy of Utah State Historical Society.
