Show STANDARD EXAMINER Serving Northern Utah Since 1888 WEDNESDAY 10.21.2015 75« Tip thwarts possible shooting Student overhears three teens plot drive-by at Venture Academy; knife, ammo seized By TAYLOR HINTZ Standard-Examiner staff MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE - A tip from a concerned student ~ at Venture Academy, 495 N. 1500 West, foiled a possible plan by another student to do a drive- by shooting at the school. On Monday afternoon, administrators at the public charter high school were alerted to a scheme that involved three 15- year-old students, according to a news release by Weber County Sheriff's Office. The three boys were detained by school officials and the Sheriffs Office was called to investigate. Another student, who was not involved with the alleged plot and not identified in the statement, overheard details of the plan and notified school offi- cials» according to Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay. Two of the juveniles implicated the third, their friend, as having a plot to acquire ammunition for a gun so he could do a "drive-by and shoot up the school," according to the statement. One of the boys was found in possession of a loaded ammunition magazine as well as a box of .22 caliber shells, according to the statement. He said the clip had been given to him by his friend in hopes of finding ammunition for it. That other boy also claimed to know of the plan and was found in possession of a large folding knife and razor blades. Detectives attempted to interview the main suspect but a parent invoked his Miranda rights and requested an attorney.
