Show Marriott-Slaterville City History August 2015 The Council approved the recommendation forwarded from the Planning Commission to change the lot lines between two lots in the Riverside Estates Subdivision. This amendment was requested by Jayne Ralston. Staff and Council members reviewed the recent 4th of July celebration, offering comments for improvements and expressing appreciation for everyone's hard work. Mayor Butler expressed his appreciation for Council member's outstanding help on the 4th, staffs efforts and time spent on the Sierra RV development, city parks and subdivisions; and Ned Alfred's outstanding job this summer in helping to maintain our aging water systems. Experimental road chipping on 1600 N and 1200 W has worked out very well, and it appears that the City budget will once again be in the black. He thanked everyone who contributes to making the City run efficiently. Mr. Morris expressed appreciation for the Mayor and his diligent work on the City budget. It was announced that UDOTwillbe installing a new traffic signal at the north bound 1-15 off ramp in mid to late September. A small business plaza will be built north of Maverik on 2000 W, which will include a Little Caesar's Pizza. Pres. Van Leeuwen expressed his appreciation for all of the hard work Trent does, along with Mr. Morris and the rest of the City staff. Mr. Hodson asked Mr. Meyerhoffer what the status is regarding our resident beaver(s) and Trent said the problems have slowed down for the time being. However, Vice-President Ilium said he has noticed some new beaver dams on the west end of the City again. He and Trent will investigate the situation. Vice-President Ilium also asked Mr. Morris to put an article in the monthly newsletter encouraging residents to stop using Round-Up on the sides of the road because it creates more problems with weeds. DianeLee and Larry Thorsted celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 15, 2015. Deputies and cleanup crews were on the scene of a crash for about five hours on Saturday afternoon, August 8, 2015 after a dump truck rolled over and spilled its contents all over the road at the intersection of 1900 West and 12th Street, The truck, which was on its way to the west landfill with a load of debris from a construction site, was turning left onto 12th Street and tipped because it was too heavy and took the turn too fast. The driver of the truck was not injured. The Weber County Library Board has voted to seek statements of interest from potential donors of property that could one day be used for a library in the northwest part of the county. The future library's primary service area would include Farr West, Marriott-Slaterville and Plain City. According to the 2013 U.S. Census estimates, 6,140 people live in Farr West, 1,701 in Marriott-Slaterville, and 6,049 in Plain City. Once a site is deeded to the board, options for funding will be pursued and a goal for a future construction date established. |
