Recycling Program Are you interested in a community recycling program? A number of residents have asked about starling a recycling program in Marriott-Slaterville similar to our neighboring cities. This recycling program would be twice a month in conjunction with garbage pick-up. Plain City, Farr West, and Harrisville all presently offer curb-side recycling. The recycling program may include opt-in or opt-out mechanisms and time periods. People do not like to see waste. Some recyclable household items include: cans (completely empty), aluminum, paper, cardboard, egg cartons, glass (unbroken), junk mail, magazines, newspaper, phone books, pizza boxes (clean), some plastics, plastic bags (all types), plastic toys, tissue boxes, and used envelopes. No one likes surprises, so Marriott-Slaterville City is seeking community input and education before creating a recycling program. It's time to get informed and participate in the process. An independent survey has been created for residents. Please take this independent online survey at: https://www.survevmoiikev.eom/r/MSHCBYR. The recycling survey is available through June 30, 2015. Natural Hazard Pre-disaster Plan All government entities in Weber County are cooperating to prepare the 2015 Natural Hazard Pre-disaster Mitigation Plan. This Plan is to help identify risks and reduce the vulnerability to and natural hazards in the county. Some of the natural hazards identified for our county include: earthquake, flood, drought, landslide, wildfire, dam failure, severe weather, pandemi insect infestation. Flooding is the biggest risk to our city. Around one-third of the city is located in the floodplain. According to FEMA, developing and purchasing land in (and close to) the floodplain may create huge financial loss to developers and property owners. Development in the floodplaii also creates enormous financial problems for communities. Understanding natural hazards, such as flood risks and floodplain management, saves money and prevents unnecessary loss of life, property, and environment. Residents are encouraged to participate in the planning process. Please feel free to contact city staff or submit your comments in writing relating to the draft Plan by August 1, 2015.
