Show 4A Monday, September 14, 2015 SE STANDARD EXAMINER Gregory Hailing, Doug Gibson, Executive Editor Managing Editor, Print Karla Woodward, Scott Parkinson, Dennis Kunimura, Marketing Director At-large Editorial Board member At-iarge Editorial Board member OUR VIEW Thumbs up, thumbs down Thumbs up: To the Hooper Tomato Days, which still charms after 90 years. The large crowd this year enjoyed free watermelon, restored tractors, games, sports, handcrafted items, and much more. Thumbs down: To some joyriding teenagers who caused a lot of damage recently in Washington Terrace after the truck the pair were in crashed on Harrison Boulevard near Country Hills Drive. Three vehicles were damaged and several persons were taken to hospitals. Thumbs up: To members of churches in the Top of Utah who offered public displays of support for the police. Law enforcement has been struggling with a lot of criticism and we're pleased that these supporters understand that police officers are overall a positive, hard-working asset to communities. Thumbs down: To a salmonella outbreak with cucumbers that affected 27 states and left at least 30 Utahns sickened. Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce of San Diego had to recall its "Limited Edition" brand after hundreds became sick. Thumbs up: To off-duty law enforcement officers, from the Ogden Police Department, who helped Lorna Huggins, 70, tear down a barn on property she just sold in Marriott-Slaterville. Huggins wanted to salvage the wood and we appreciate the help she received. Thumbs down: To Donald Trump, and his latest attack on a woman. The GOP frontrunner disparaged the looks of fellow Republican candidate Carly Fiorina in an interview published in Rolling Stone magazine. Trump's latest bit of sexism and cruelty is, as always, unwelcome. |
