Show Marriott-Slaterville City History July 2015 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History July 2015 In April city staff was busy planning for drought restrictions that were anticipated from Weber Basin. In May the city staff were handling flood complaints and planning flood mitigation measures, and June brought a heat wave which continued in July. This year, for the first time in history, the month of June was hotterthan July. Life goes on, from one extreme to another. Due to the amount of rain received in May there is an overgrowth of weeds. Residents were asked to cut weeds around any fire hydrants in their neighborhoods and to not burn telephone and Comcast boxes when burning ditches and fields. The annual 4th of July celebration was a huge success! Activities included the annual golf tournament, 5K Run/Walk and breakfasts sponsored by the three LDS Wards. The parade began at 10:00 am on 700 South. Guests of Honor who rode with the Mayor included LaRae Brown, Naomi Eilers, and Myron Stevenson. Post Paving and Asphalt placed 1st in the parade with the Black Rod from Ray's Auto body taking 2nd place, Missionaries Squad 3rd place, and the Slater Hometown, USA float coming in at 4th. Afterwards everyone enjoyed lunch, games, contests and other activities at the Marriott Park. There has been vandalism at some of the City parks and other places in the community. Residents are asked to contact the Sheriffs office non-emergency dispatch at (801) 629-8221 or call 911 if they see any criminal activity. Due to abuse the dumpster at Slaterville Park had to be removed. The dumpster was intended to help keep the park clean and support park activities, but unfortunately it became a free-for- all as it was filled with private yard debris, furniture and other items not related to the park. All government entities in Weber County are cooperating to prepare the 2015 Natural Hazard Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan. The purpose of the Plan is to help identify risks and reduce the vulnerability to natural hazards in the county. Residents are encouraged to participate in the planning process. Rob Smout, Dennis Ilium and Scott Van Leeuwen have filed for the open council positions. Since these positions are unopposed, the municipal election will be cancelled, but Weber County may hold a ballot proposition election this fall. Sierra RV Sales & Service has been approved to build a facility at 1700 West 1100 South. Upland Ranches was granted final approval for a 10 lot subdivision on 200 South at approximately 2300 West, subject to council, engineering and agency requirements.
