Ely said motorists were driving on a dry interstate when a "microburst storm" hit that area and they were suddenly driving on icy roads, which caused one car to lose control and then a chain reaction from the other motorists who tried to slow down to avoid sliding. Several cars were severely damaged. Vehicle parts and other debris were strewn across the interstate. All three northbound lanes were closed while crews investigated the accident.
