Show Marriott-Slaterville City History June 2015 Commission and staff follow-up: • Staff was asked what had happened with the Vitt property and reported that Mr, Vitt ended up paying his property taxes. • Some of the junk on the property located west of the Heritage Park mentioned in last month's meeting has been cleaned up. • Trent mentioned that the EPA is now pushing low-impact development from a contractor's point-of-vrew, which means they still approve of curb and gutter but are now requiring that the water drain into some sort of vegetation which will filter the water before it reaches the holding pond. • Trent feels that the City still needs to require curb and gutter to define the roadways, along with a sidewalk for safety, but all agreed that this needs to be reviewed further. • A contract to hydro-seed the park strip in front of the Marriott Park has been awarded to a landscape contractor. In the meantime, Trent plans to have the inmates mow the weeds to keep them down. City Council Meeting-June 18.2015 Business Licenses for Mobley Trucking and Blue Moon Vapors were reviewed and approved by the Council. Susan Fuller, who owns property in Marriott-Slaterville but is not a resident, sent a letter to the city complaining that she had tried to rent one of our parks, but was told she would be required to pay the non-resident rental fee of $50 per block rather than the $25 per block fee charged for residents. She felt this was discriminatory because she is a property owner and pays property taxes to the city (so she thought), and felt she should be able to receive the resident rate. Mr. Hodson contacted her and explained that our city does not have a property tax. She was not aware of that and appreciated him contacting her and explaining the fees. Gerald Hoth received approval to develop Phases 4 and 5 of Townhouse Estates. The City Council approved a 0.25% local option transportation sales tax to be submitted to the voters for action in November 2015. The Council encourages voters in the county to carefully study and become educated on the transportation issues in our state, and to also be aware of the impact of this proposed tax on the economy and transportation needs. The City Council adopted the FY 2015-16 Pioneer Special Service District budget, the FY 2014-15 amended city budget, and the 2015-16 final budget. Council members discussed the activities for the upcoming Fourth of July Celebration. Officer reports and legislative oversight: The City has hired a young man to weed the gardens and he has done a great job. |
