Show Monday, May 18, 2015 3A WEBER COUNTY Heavy rain causes flooding Saturday's nonstop rain kept Weber Fire District crews busy overnight. Crews responded to seven flooding incidents in Farr West, Marriott-Slaterville, West Haven and Unincorporated Weber County. The calls started coming in around 5:50 p.m. on Saturday and continued until 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. The road leading to the Willard Bay South Marina at 4000 N. 2700 West in Farr West was closed Sunday morning because of flooding. Crews were able to reopen the road by Sunday afternoon. "The canal here just couldn't contain all the water," said Weber Fire Marshall Brandon Thueson. "It overflowed its banks into some of the farmland and across the roadway making it a hazardous driving area." Overflowing canals and ditches also caused flooded basements throughout Weber County. Property owners can help public works by doing a survey of their property. If ditches and canals aren't flowing right contact the local public works department. With the heavy rain also comes the rising water levels in rivers and streams. "Our rivers and streams are getting high and with the forecast calling for heavy rains for the next four days We are concerned about that," said Thueson. He suggests keeping children away from the rivers, ditches, streams and canals. According to the National Weather Service, Weber and Davis counties received 2-3 inches of rain. More rain was expected today. |
