Show Standard Examiner Monday, September 28, 2015 9A Marriott-Slaterville history cherishes literary contributions Four people's writings reflect early life in area By CARMEN LOPEZ Standard-Examiner staff Imagine how exciting it would be to write a story about your life and where you grew up. Envision the sense of pride you would feel knowing your ancestors settled the area where your memories were created. This week's Monday Memories spotlights the literary contributions of four people whose works are cherished as part of Marri- ott-Slaterville's history. A former resident of 8a- kersfleld, California, Ida Marriott Kyle is seen at the 0. SEEPHOTOS ONLINE 'w.standard.net piano on the cover of her autobiography. For many years, she taught piano in Utah and California. A highlight in her life was the opportunity to study piano with renowned concert pianist Frederic Dixon. She was presented by Dixon in recitals at the Crystal Ballroom of the Hotel Ben Lomond and at Kingsbury Hall at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Madeleine Marriott Har- rop's autobiography included letters she received and wrote, writings of her family and a piece about g the renovation of her home. She also wrote a poem titled "Home." Harrop and Kyle were sisters. The siblings were granddaughters of Teresa South- wick and John Marriott, early pioneers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who founded the community of Mary Agnes Farley Marriott was born Sept. 21,1871, in West Weber and died Sept. 18, 1957. Her autobiography Ida Marriott Kyle was born in Ogden on Jan. 16,1912, and died July 10, 2002. She taught piano in Utah and California.
