Show Marriott-Slaterville City History October 2015 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History October 2015 The second half of September through the first half of October has been the warmest on record, according to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City. We did have occasional rain as we prepare to head into winter, but we saw 70s and 80s and it was basically dry. However, the National Weather Service said the warm weather doesn't have a direct correlation of any upcoming winter or snow yield, so we just enjoyed the current weather and waited patiently. The annua! Halloween Trunk-Or-Treat was held at the Slaterville Park on Saturday, October 31, 2015. The Fall Clean-up occurred on October 24th and 25th, with the City providing dumpsters as a complimentary service at the Marriott Park and the Slaterville Park. Based on the favorable public response for recycling, the City Council approved residential curbside recycling. It is anticipated that the program will begin in January 2016. There will be a short opt-out period for those residents who do not want to participate. The 2015 municipal election was cancelled for November, as the number of candidates did not exceed the number of offices. Planning Commission and City Council Meetings were both cancelled for October, as there was no business. The First United Methodist Church and George E. Wahlen Ogden Veteran's Home sponsored a 5K Race/1 Mile Walk on Saturday, October 10, 2015 beginning at the Veteran's Home and ending at the Church. The $30 cost included refreshments and prize drawings and awards were presented to the top three finishers in each age group in the race only. After the race/run a Chili Cook-Off, blood drive and family activities were held in the parking lot of the Church. The First United Methodist Church also held a fall craft bazaar on October 23rd from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and on October 24th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm as well. There was an assortment of holiday items as well as eight local authors who signed copies of their books. The bazaar also includes many different items for sale along with 27 booths with local vendors. The funds raised from the bazaar were shared with local charities. As autumn turns to winter it seems that the year has passed quickly. All city parks closed on October 15th and will reopen next April. The city pressurized irrigation systems were shut down and weatherized the first part of October. Now it's time to harvest, plant bulbs, prune trees and pull weeds in preparation for next spring.
