Show Marriott-Slaterville City History June 2015 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History June 2015 After a wet and cool May, Utah suddenly turned on the heat. June has reverted right back to a typical Utah summer; hot and dry. It was the hottest June on record following the warmest winter ever, which was also drier than usual. The temperature during the period of December 2014 to February 2015 broke the previous record set during the 1977-78 season. Ogden's high temperature was above the historical average all 30 days in June. The annual 4th of July Celebration will begin on Friday, July 3rd with the Fifteenth Annual Golf Tournament at Mulligan's. Saturday July 4th will feature a 5K Run/Walk starting at 7:00 am at the Marriott Park, followed by a Breakfast at 8:00 am at the Marriott Park and the LDS Church Bowery, sponsored by the LDS Wards. The parade will start at 10:30 am with the line up on 700 South. Then to top it all off afterwards there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, games, a giant slide, candy cannons, contests, prizes and lots of fun at the Marriott Park! A number of residents have asked about starting a recycling program in Marriott-Slaterville, similar to our neighboring cities. This recycling program would be twice a month in conjunction with garbage pick-up. The recycling program may include opt-in or opt-out mechanisms and time periods. The City is currently seeking community input and education before creating such a program, so an independent survey has been created at www.surveymonkey.com/r/M8HCBYR through June 30, 2015. All government entities in Weber County are cooperating to prepare the 2015 Natural Hazard Pre-disaster Mitigation Plan. This Plan is to help identify risks and reduce the vulnerability to natural hazards in the county. Flooding is the biggest risk to our city, as approximately one- third of the city is located in the floodplain. Understanding natural hazards such as flood risks and floodplain management saves money and prevents unnecessary loss of life, property, and environment. Residents are encouraged to participate in the planning process and are asked to contact city staff or submit comments in writing relating to the Draft Plan by August 1, 2015. Weber County may hold an election this year on a proposed transportation tax in conjunction with the City Council election. The county is shifting elections to Vote-By-Mail. The filing dates for candidates for City Council is during business hours between June 1st and 8th. Whitley Surrage held a Bake Sale to help sponsor her National American Miss Pageant. The Bake Sale was held on June 27th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Marriott-Slaterville City Parking Lot. We congratulate Whitley as she represents Utah, Nevada and of course, Marriott- Slaterville City! Planning Commission Meeting-June 16, 2015 A concept review for the proposed Mountain Vista Subdivision at 3750 W Pioneer Road was held. Jason Haas who is the developer, would like to subdivide his property, but after discussion with the Commission regarding the requirements and costs involved, decided that it will not be economically feasible to pursue this. |
