Show 8A Saturday, August 8, 2015 Standard Examiner Thunderstorm causes multiple power outages along Wasatch Front OGDEN —Severe thunderstorms coupled with heavy wind brought sideways rain throughout the Wasatch Front that caused power outages affecting as many as 7,000 people. The thunderstorm caused several power outages throughout Northern Utah. Rocky Mountain Power reported a power outage in the Woods Cross and North Salt Lake area and another outage affecting Hooper, West Haven, Taylor, Ogden and West Weber. Both outages occurred about 7:30 p.m., and each affected approximately 3,500 residents. The second power outage was partially restored within an hour, restoring power to all but 1,530 Ogden residents. According to Rocky Mountain Power estimates, the power outage in Woods Cross was expected to be restored around 12:30 a.m., and the outage in Ogden is expected to be restored around 10 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning from the National Weather Service said that winds near 70 mph were discovered by Doppler radar in the storm that traveled eastward at 45 mph over Northern Utah. One local storm report indicated gusts up to 80 mph near Big Mountain Pass around 7:54 p.m. That severe thunderstorm warning expired at 8:45 p.m. Weber and Davis dispatchers said that as of 8:45 p.m. there were no accidents or floods as a resuji of the storm.
