Show Weber County golf course to host Utah Open Disc Golf Tournament MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — The first Utah Open Disc Golf Tournament is expected to draw a number of professionals known for the game. The tournament will be held at 9 a.m. May 9 at Mulligan's Creekside Golf Center at 1690 W. 400 North, Marriott-Slaterville. The tournament is being sponsored by Prodigy Disc. "There will be a number of pro fessionals in attendance," said Bill Morris, an event coordinator and owner of Mulligan's Creekside Golf Center. One of those competing includes Avery Jenkins, ambassador of the sport and 2009 World Champion. Others attending will include Paul Ulibarri, who in 2014 had several top 10 finishes and is considered one of the top players in the world and Simon Lizotte, currently rated No. 3 in the world who just broke the long distance world record with a "crazy" 863 feet throw, Morris said. Mike Milne, Utah's very own professional, will also be in attendance. The tournament will consist of 72 participants, including the No. 1 rated woman in the world, Catrina Allen. The entry fee to compete is $65 for those who are professional, and $60 for amateurs, said Jade Sewell, tournament director. The popularity of disc golf is on the rise nationally, Sewell said, where anybody can play it at any skill level. The sport also provides good exercise, himself having lost 45 pounds since picking up the sport on a regular basis. "Utahns just don't know what it is," he said. "They are playing catch-up right now." The game was originally developed back in the 1970s, Sewell said. For more information about the event call 801-791-0001.
