Show LaRee Elmer Shurtliff April 9, 1916 ~ February 10, 2015 LaRee Elmer Shurtliff, 98, passed away on February 10, 2015. The eldest of three children, she was born on April 9, 1916, to Dowayne Neor Jessop and Pearl Amelia James in Wilson. She married George Wilford Elmer on November 2, 1938, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Logan Temple. He died January 1985. She later married Russell Shurtliff in Ogden on October 12, 1991; he died in October 1999. She worked for the Utah State Center for the Blind, as a driver for Lynn Cruser for more than 20 years until she retired. She did handiwork with embroidery and fine thread crochet providing heirloom pillowcases and table/dresser linens for her children and grandchildren. For many years she was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was chosen and served as the DUP Ogden Pioneer Days queen in July 2011. She was proud of her pioneer heritage. She faithfully served in the Ogden LDS Temple of 18 years until it closed for renovation. Russell served with her until his death. She served in various callings and was a faithful visiting teacher for her entire adult life. She served two proselyting missions; Birmingham, Alabama with her husband, George, and in Tempe, Arizona after his death. She has 38 grandchildren, 118 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren and displayed many photos of them in her home. She is survived by her eight children; Georgia Nielsen (Hans Otto, deceased) of Frederica, Denmark, Wendell Elmer (Dianne) of Roy, Joseph Elmer (Kathy) of Marriott-Slaterville, Marlene Gma (Roger) of Ogden, Raylene Bush (Robert) of Pleasant Grove, Barbara Phipps (Randy), Donald Elmer (Judi), James Elmer all of Marriott- Slaterville and a stepson Daniel Shurtliff of Layton. She is also survived by her brother Dennis Jessop (Donna) of Rupert, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dowayne Delmont Jessop, an infant son, Douglas; two greatgrandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The family expresses appreciation to the care givers at Hospice Care of Northern Utah. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Marriott-Slaterville First Ward, 250 North 1500 West. A viewing will held on Sunday, February 15 from 6 to 8 pm at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and prior to services from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Ogden City Cemetery on Tuesday, February 17,2015 at 3:30 pm. LaRee loved flowers and contributed to numerous charitable organizations. Any choice you make would please her. Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.myers-mortuary.com Karen Delores Knight Brown August 6, 1940 ~ February 11, 2015 On Wednesday, February 11, 2015, Heaven opened its gates and welcomed its newest angel home. Karen Delores Knight Brown was lovingly welcomed into Heaven by her son, Johnny and her loving parents. Karen fought a graceful and courageous battle, but ultimately was called home. Karen was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. Karen was born in Ogden, Utah on August 6, 1940 to Donald V. and Sally Knight. She attended school in Ogden. On September 25, 1956 she and John Joseph Brown were married in Ogden. They later moved to Seattle WA for three years, Karen supported John while he was in the service. Ultimately John and Karen chose to return to Utah where they continued to build their family. John and Karen had four beautiful children together. Karen prided herself in her hobbies which included; crocheting, embroidery, crafting, gardening, her love of music, and playing the guitar and organ. She loved her Wendover trips, camping, fishing, and traveling. Above everything, Karen valued her family the most. She loved sipping on her rum and coke while swapping stories with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was so proud of her family, and considered them her greatest accomplishment. Karens selfless heart and compassion for others left an impact on everyone she met. No matter how big or small the relationship, Karen touched the lives of all those around her. Karen leaves behind her legacy of compassion, love, understanding, and selflessness. All those who knew her are better because of her. Karen is survived by her husband; daughter, Frankie (Pedro) Martinez; two sons, Ron (Paula) Brown and Dave (Karen) Brown; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Donald (Marie, deceased; Knight and Gary (Joyce) Knight. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, John Corey Brown. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18,2015 at the Ogden City Cemetery, 20th and Madison. A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Intermountain Hospice.
