Show Marriott-Slaterville City History August 2015 Vice-Chair Meyerhoffer complained about the amount of weeds along the City roads, saying it is hard to see around street corners because there are so many. Trent said the County usually mows twice a year in June and September, but he will contact them to see if they can mow them now. Vice-Chair Meyerhoffer asked if we could require residents to keep their weeds mowed down and Mr. Morris said he suggested this in City Council, but Mr. Slater felt it was too much interference by City government. Blue Moon Vapor/Love Towing has a mechanic shop with cars parked out front, but the agreement was that the cars would be kept behind a fence. Trent said he discussed this with them today and they agreed to keep the cars behind the fence. Mr. Pitcher asked if there was now a business east of Mr. Schofield's home (former site of Green Disposal), as there are several cars parked there on a consistent basis. Trent said there is a business there, but they claim their business is actually in Ogden and they are using this as a remote location. Vice-Chair Meyerhoffer asked if the old Marriott-Slaterville sign that used to be by Steve Mecham's house will be put back up. Steve said he is going to do that, but it has not happened yet. Mr. Schofield asked if any grants will be submitted this coming year for the parks and Mr. Morris responded that a grant will be submitted next year for $500,000 for tennis courts and Pickle Ball at the Heritage Park on 700 S. City Council Meeting-August 20.2015 Two new Business Licenses were approved: Land Air Beyond Photography and RTH Enterprises. Both are home offices. Mr. Morris presented a draft on the Natural Hazard Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan. Weber County Emergency Management and each of the jurisdictions within the County have created this plan for the County, with mitigation strategies to address these hazards. The Plan is posted on the City website and there is an open comment period for the next 30 days. The City will approve the Plan once the comment period ends and the final version is ready. Susan Fuller, a former resident of Marriott and now a property owner/landlord in the City, came to the Council meeting asking about the discrepancy in park rental fees for residents vs, non-residents. She feels that the resident fees should apply to property owners as well, even though they no longer live here. Mr. Morris explained that the City now requires landlords to obtain a Business License, which entitles them to receive resident rates when renting any of our parks. As such, Mrs. Fuller will be eligible to receive resident rates if she rents any of our parks in the future. Beth Holbrook, Public Sector Services with Waste Management of Utah addressed the Council during a Public Hearing to explain their solid waste recycling program in detail. A total of 39 individuals responded to an on-line survey with overall responses being positive about the idea of instigating curbside recycling within our City. Discussion/action on the recycling program will be continued to the next Council meeting on September 17, 2015. The Council approved Ordinance 2015-02 adopting the Marriott-Slaterville Community Development Area Plan for a 43-acre area at the end of 1700 W off of 12th Street as approved by the Community Development and Renewal Agency. |
