Show Disc From 1B incorporated, it made it really challenging and really tough today." The number one-rated woman in the world, Catrina Allen, explained that the precipitation affects both the feet and hands. "We really need a good footing, and you also need a good grip," she explained. "On this course, you're throwing a lot of power shots, so you have to slow down, club up. For some reason, when it's wetter, you don't get as much spin on the disc, so you have to club up. So instead of throwing a mid-range you're throwing a fairway or a driver. You have to do a lot of extra thinking." Jenkins explained that the slightest error can result in a big mistake as the disc flies forward. "Having to throw with your hands and the disc being wet presents another credible challenge. A lot of times you don't know where it's going," said Jenkins. "If you're trying to throw high velocity, big distance shots with the disc coming out of your hand, if there's any kind of slip, any kind of angle change, it's really going to affect the shot down the field." Tournament director Jade Sewell hopes that the event will help increase interest in the sport locally. "Ijthink if I can keep bringing the big names here, it'll bring attention to Utah," he said. "Which helps grow the sport, and that's what I'm trying to do." The pros in attendance have taken notice of Sewell's efforts and hope they yield the desired results. "It's pretty special what Jade's doing here," said Jenkins. "He's really trying to get Salt Lake City and Ogden disc golf on the map as far as Utah disc golf continues to grow. We want to be here to support that. He's doing monumental things here getting courses installed, and the club's DENNIS MONTGOMERY/Slandard-Eiaminer correspondent A disc golfer's bag at Saturday's Utah Open disc golf tournament at Mulligan's contains a variety of specialty discs for driving, mid- range shots and putting. all behind him. He's got a lot of good contacts throughout this whole region, and he's going to make some big things happen in the coming years." Tournament winner Ulibarri hopes that he will be able to reflect on his victory as the first of what will hopefully be a longstanding tournament. "I hope this turns into something big, and I think that a lot of people feel that it will," he said. "For that reason, it is special that I'm the first winner of the Utah Open."
