Show Tip From 1A evidence to determine how legitimate the threat really was, according to the statement. The fact that the plot had been talked about and steps were taken to acquire weapons is very concerning, the sheriff's office said. All three students were suspended from the school and released to parents. A security sweep was conducted of the premises by deputies but a handgun was not lo cated. The investigation remains active and all three subjects likely will face charges in juvenile court. "This case serves as a good reminder of the threats we are facing in society as far as safeguarding our children in our schools, and how important it is for students to come forward with information when they hear something suspicious or disconcerting," Findlay said. Standard Examiner //9-J/4-/T Marriott-Slaterville man accused of killing neighbor's cat By ANDREAS RIVERA Standard-Examiner staff MARRIOTT- SLATERVILLE — A man was arrested after he allegedly chased his neighbor's eat with his dog then killed it Tuesday. Dennis Lester was booked into the Weber County Jail on Thursday for suspicion of torture of a companion animal. Residents who recently moved into the neighborhood near 1200 West and 950 South reported their neighbor admitted to them that he killed their cat, according to charging documents. When questioned by the Weber County Sheriff's Office, Lester said he tried to pet the cat when it was near his property after his dog chased it. At one point he tried to pick it up and it bit his finger, according to the report. He then chased it across the street and cornered it underneath a neighbor's porch. He allegedly sprayed the cat with water to try to get it out. He also told police that he got welders gloves and pliers to pull the cat out from under- cape the man and his dog, but fell to the ground each time, he said. When he did get a hold of the cat, he said it appeared injured so he put the heel of his boot on the cat's throat and killed it, according to the report. He then put the dead cat in a trash bag and threw it away. At no point did he contact animal services or veterinarian about the injured cat, according to the report. He did not inform the owners until they approached him about their missing cat. Torture of a companion animal is a 3rd-degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of zero to five years in prison.
