Show - PAID ADVERTISEMENT - OGDEN - Working on cars while keeping the environment clean is a top priority for Chris Mantas. The owner of Tear A Part makes sure every piece of a vehicle, from the metal to the fluid, is properly recycled. Tear A Part, an auto recycling company, is headquartered in Salt Lake City. The business has been so successful, Mantas has decided to open a second location in Ogden at 763 12th Street. The company plans to be up and running later this month. "Tear A Part is a family business," said spokesperson Dimitri Gerontis. "My Uncle Pete has been involved in rebuilding cars for 50 years. He started rebuilding them in his garage and then opened up a shop. Then about 40 years ago he got involved with the recycling end of things." The company has won several awards for their development of extraction and separation of hazardous fluids in automobiles, including Best In State for Environmental Science. The company has also won Best In State for Automotive Service. "When we get to the fluid in a vehicle, we separate upon extraction and don't drain any of the fluids into a well or strainer," Gerontis said. "We also never mix any fluids together. Then " we send the vehicle to a shredding facility and get it ready for recycling." In addition to recycling, the company sells quality used parts with a 90 day warranty and can help, you locate vehicle parts that match or are interchangeable with your vehicle parts. The company will also buy used cars, running or not and will also buy cars off the street whether or not they have a title. "We handle the impound on those through the state," Gerontis said. "We also work closely with donation groups like the Kidney Foundation." The new location will be open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the summer and 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m. during the winter. "We're really happy to be here in Ogden and have developed a great working relationship with both Ogden and Marriott-Slaterville," Geron tis said. "We're also excited to start getting dead or dying vehicles out of peoples driveway's and off the street." To contact Tear A Part, call 801-564-6960. By JAMIE LAMPROS Standard-Examiner correspondent |
