Show ... And this is the Way It All Began ... MURIEL ROBINSON SHUPE For many years I have been gathering information and pictures for a Robinson Family History and have accumulated enough data to justify the beginning of this important undertaking. When the Warner family produced its histories on William G. Warner and his son, Ralph G. Warner, I was greatly impressed. Both books were complete and very well done. I was especially pleased with the inclusion of pictures and short stories of some of the neighbors and asked permission to use these in the Robinson Book. Margaret Warner Ranson immediately brought the material requested and told me to use it as I desired. But the further I went on the Robinson History the more I was impressed with the knowledge that very little had ever been written about Mountain Green and her pioneer families. This delightful little settlement had begun its existance when less than a handful of families settled there as early as 1857. I researched an old ledger kept by my great grandmother, Lucinda V. Roberts Robinson. There on its time worn pages were names of families, births and deaths, plus the minutes of both Church and School meetings, especially concerning the era when the second conmunity building was being planned and built about 1872. The ledger was also crammed full of information about Lucinda's business dealings with miners, home builders, farmers and others, including business dealings with her own family. It was a literal gold mine of historical data. Family group sheets were researched where names, dates and addresses of descendents of the early families were recorded. A letter writing-telephoning campaign was launched which resulted in wonderful stories, diaries, biographies and pic- 1 |
