Roberts became a well known author of LDS Church books, writing "A Comprehensive History of the Church" and other volumes on Church doctrine. KENNETH BYRAM AND OTTO COTTRELL WITH CUB AND BEAR SKINS MORE BEAR STORIES In 1929, Byrams killed six Brown and Cinnamon bears in Cottonwood Canyon which had been killing their sheep. One female was caught in a trap and shot. The next day the men returned to the trap and found a little cub caught by its shoulder in the trap. They took the cub home and doctored its shoulder. Kenneth said that if he sat very quiet the little cub would come over and climb onto his lap and let him stroke its fur. The cub was given to a man in Riverdale who wanted it as an attraction at his root-beer stand, but Its injured shoulder was neglected and the little bear died from infection. In the late 1800's George Henry Peterson, son of Charles S. Peterson, had a narrow escape from a grizzly bear in Cottonwood Canyon. He had ridden horseback to the Canyon to round up a herd of dairy cows. 62
