Show Albert and Eliza Dickson Rich on the Creek about 1911-1912 ALBERT F. RICH ELIZA DICKSON RICH "Poor Dick is dead! Poor Dick is dead!" the children lamented when 'Poor Dick,' a favorite white horse on the Rich farm in Mountain Green, suddenly dropped dead while pulling a plow in a field on the hillside. This incident was well remembered by Norene Rich Kendell as she reminisced about her life on the Cottonwood Canyon ranch while whe was a little girl. She and her sisters never forgot the incident. Albert F. and Eliza Dickson Rich lived on the Mountain Green farm nearly five years where he operated a little hillside farm and raised Plymouth Rock chickens. It was a happy life for the family in the little cement house and the children al¬ways remembered the years spent there. Albert F. Rich was born, 9 July 1878, in Richville, Morgan County, a son of Franklin John and Sarah Ann Rawle Rich. He attended school in Richville and was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a mission to Germany. On 15 November 1905, he married Eliza Dickson, daughter of William H. and Martha Slade Dickson. She was also born in Richville and attended the local sch¬ool. The young couple settled down in Richville. At the time the Rich family lived in Mountain Green, Albert and Eliza were parents of three daughters, Marr, Erma and Norene. Leaving Mountain Green, the family moved back to Richville where they lived with Eliza's parents until they could build a home in Morgan City. Four more children were born to the couple: Leone, Martha, Albert and Ted. Following the marriage of Marr, the young couple moved to Chicago where she died, leaving two small children. Albert and Eliza brought the children home and cared for them as their own. 269 |
