Show SANDSTONE CHAPEL IN THE GROVE THE OLD SANDSTONE CHAPEL—JUST A MEMORY In September of 1927 the sandstone church had been dedicated to the Lord as a place of worship by Apostle George Albert Smith. In November of 1928 the old Mountain Green Ward became a thing of the past when members were united with the Peterson Ward. The beloved chapel was sold to the Rollins family. For a short time it was used as a home, then a place for storing grain, tools and equipment. The building was later sold to a man who turned it into a common dance hall. Thus desecrated, the elements began to take their toll. A heavy snow storm caved the roof in. Slowly the sturdy stone walls fell and the stone blocks were carted away by van¬dals to be used for other purposes. Nothing is left but memories of the beloved chapel and the verdant green grove of cottonwood trees which surrounded it and protected it as long as it stood as a hallowed place of worship. 26 |
