Show In November of 1890 Orrin Harley Randall acquired 320 acres of land in the Cottonwood Canyon area from Joel and Elizabeth Parrish. An additional 600 acres were purchased from Joshua and Hannah Williams on 8 March 1901. In May of that same year 80 additional acres were purchased from Parley P. Parrish and another 240 acres from Joel Parrish, making a total of 1,240 acres of land. In February of 1900 the Randall Brothers Land and Livestock Company was organized in Centerville, Orrin Harley Randall was named President of the organization as well as a Director. Melvin Harley served as Vice Pres¬ident and Director. Orrin Randall's children worked on the ranch during the summer months, and Melvin and Orrin's children were among them. Hay and grain were raised along with livestock. But the organization decided to rid themselves of the property and in April of 1904 the last 600 acres were returned to Joshua Williams to pay off the $2,100 still due and the Mountain Green venture came to an end. Orrin Harley Randall and his family lived on the Cottonwood Ranch and oper¬ated it for several years. Many other members of the Randall family lived there for a few months over the years while the Ranch was in operation. They were also very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Orrin Harley Randall was born, 16 January 1850, in Salt Lake City, a son of Alfred and Margaret Harley Randall. He grew up and attended school in Centerville and also became active in the Church. He married Julia Adarena Wooley, 12 March 1877. He was 27 and she was 18 years of age. Julia was born, 18 April 1859, in Centerville, a daughter of John Wickersham and Julia Searles Ensign Wickersham. She also attended Centerville sch¬ools and Church, They were parents of eight children, Adarena, Orrin LeRoy, Julia Irene, John Wooley, Rachael, Alfred Wooley, Camille and Harold Wooley Randall. Orrin died, 5 November 1918, and Julia died, 20 November 1921. Both are buried in Centerville. ORRIN HARLEY RANDALL 212 |
