Show HARRY IRENE Harry Warner, Lover of Sports 1920 While still living in the little town of Uintah, Utah, the eighth child and fifth son was born to William G. and Minnie Candland Warner. The date was June 2, 1893 and the new baby was given the name of Harry Candland Warner. Born, July 18, 1909, Harry was baptized in Cottonwood Creek in Mountain Green by Joseph William Young. He was confirmed a member of the Church by Bishop Joseph A. Parrish that same day. After finishing grade school, Harry attended the Utah State College in Logan for one year. He also worked on his parents ranch in Mountain Green and in the railroad yards in Ogden. When World War I began he volunteered for the Army and didn't wait to be drafted. Harry loved to play baseball and was the youngest player on the Peterson base¬ball team. He was a catcher, and a good one. His brother, Homer, also pitched when available. In fact, all the Warner boys played baseball and loved it. In the Spring of 1919 Harry and his brother, Ralph, bought the Warner ranch from their father. One year later, Harry married Irene Steele. Ralph and Katie had moved into the old Warner home and Harry and his new bride started housekeeping in the yellow brick home across the road. Their first child, Robert, was born in Salt Lake City. Irene's health was failing and Harry sold his interest in the ranch to Ralph and moved his family to Salt Lake City where Irene could obtain better medical care.
