Show CHARLES EDWARD FRANCE MATILDA KENT FRANCE EMMA ELLEN FRANCE Charles Edward and Eliza Kent France 1884 When Charles Edward "Ted" and Eliza Matilda Kent France moved to Mountain Green in about 1884, they set a precedent. All four of the eight married children, born to them, lived on the farm with their families at one time or another. Charles Edward France was born 1 October 2858 in Centerville, Davis County, a son of Joseph David and Ellen Harrod France. He grew up on his father's farm and went to school in Centerville. Eliza Matilda Kent France was born in Bountiful, Davis County, 26 October 1860 where she attended school. The couple was married 30 March 1882 in Bountiful. Their first child, Charles Edward Jr., was born there. He died at age nine. In about 1884, Ted and Matilda moved to the Mountain Green farm which had been purchased by his father for his fourth wife, Adelaide Gyde France. Here Law¬rence Kent and Sidney Wesley were born. Lawrence Kent died at age 20. He was un¬married. On the Mountain Green farm Ted raised hay and grain which were hauled to the Strawberry and loaded onto railroad cars bound for Salt Lake City where the crops were sold. Ted was especially fond of good horses and always drove a smart looking and well kept team. He was a good provider and often when he killed and dressed a beef he would share the meat with some of his needy neighbors. After the death of his father, in 1886, Ted bought the old France farm and home in Centerville. He eventually bought out most of the other heirs which gave 196 |
