Show Mildred Williams, Kind Neighbor 1900 Mildred Williams was a shy, reserved person whose love extended in abundance to her family, friends and flowers. She was born, 27 July 1878, in Mountain Green, a daughter of James and Brittamore France Williams. Her mother died when she was a young woman of 22 and Mildred took over the responsibilities of the home, caring for the daily needs of her father, and younger brother and sister. Her father never remarried and Mildred remained single all her life. She loved flowers and her home and garden were a riot of color from early Spring until late Fall. She was clever with the needle and spent much time crochet¬ing and knitting gifts for members of the family. Her pride were the beautiful qu¬ilts she continually worked at. These were also given away as gifts. A good coon, Mildred was never known to turn any hungry person away from her door, especially during the depression when 'knights of the road' stopped regularly for a 'hand out.' When the France family picture sheet was being made up, Mildred supplied most of the photos used in its makeup. Mildred Williams died in an Ogden hospital, 21 February 1978. She was burried beside her father and mother in the little Mountain Green Pioneer Cemetery. —Elwood Williams, Ogden AROUND 1912 or 1913 Elwood Williams picked up a few motherless lambs, one of which grew up to be a big buck with a short fuse and power to back it up. One balmy day Uncle Edward Williams stopped in and, as usual, the old ram was in the welcoming committee. Uncle Ed was immediately approached by the 'King of Kings.' Uncle Ed, with a waist measurement of about 50 inches, made it to the well curbing with the King in hot persuit. He attempted to manouver his 'front overhang' around the small curbing, but soon ran out of time and steam. The buck won the battle of the bulge. The air was rent with blood curdling screams that can only come from one with a large lung capacity. We all rushed to the rescue. Needless to say, the Williams farm was given a wide berth by Uncle Ed for several years after that episode. MILDRED WILLIAMS 218 |
