Show Jacobsons, Worthy of Their Hire 1922 For a period of time after Harry and Irene Warner moved from the yellow brick house built by Ralph and Katie Warner, it was used as a granary and a place to store farm equipment and supplies. Then in the Spring of 1922, Ralph, need¬ing a farm hand, hired August Peter Jacobson, and the family moved into the yellow brick home. Pete was a hard working man and one that Katie didn't have to cook for and she liked that. August Peter Jacobson was born, 2 August 1883, in Elsinore, Sevier County, a son of Axel Peter and Marie Hansen Jacobson. He was married to Emma Lyons. Her parents were Will¬iam Henry and Alice Brown Lyons. She was born in Morgan City, 25 November 1895. At one time the Jacobsons had lived in Castle Rock where Peter worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. The children remembered that their house in Castle Rock was near the Weber River. They moved from there to Mountain Green. Four children, Donna, Alice, Eldon and Kyle, were born in Morgan. On the War¬ner farm Pete did all the jobs required of a hired man, helping to plant and har¬vest crops, milk cows and feed the stock. The family moved to Ogden where they lived in a little house near the viaduct. Here a fifth child was born and died. Pete worked for the American Packing Company. While working at the packing plant, Pete suffered a severe injury to his leg which took a long time to heal. Sometime between 1928 and 1931 the Jacobsons moved to Elsinore. Here Pete worked as a sheep herder for local sheep owners. He died in 1952 and Emma died in 1970. The Ralph Warner family have fond memories of the Jacobson family. They said that Pete was a good, dependable worker who was always there when needed. When Katie Warner ran a needle into her hand she suffered untold pain. Emma was an 'angel of mercy' , always on hand that painful Summer to assist the family EMMA AND PETER JACOBSON 305 |
