Show as only about a half dozen families resided there as owners of nearly the entire settlement. (Andrew Jensen, Church historian records) In 1906 Ezra Parrish was sustained Bishop of the Mountain Green-Peterson Ward, and continued to serve until 1909, He moved from the Community and his brother, Joseph A. Parrish, was sustained Bishop. In 1912 the Saints in Mountain Green were organized into a Ward with Joseph Alonzo Parrish as Bishop. He was ordained 10 March, 1912, with William G. Warner and Edward A. Fernelius as counsel-ors. Oscar W. Rollins was Ward Clerk. Three other sets of counsel¬ors served with Bishop Parrish between 1912 and 1928, when the Ward was again disorganized. They were Edwin C. Warner and Oscar W. Rollins, with Eric Pettit as Clerk; John F. Porter and Peter Fernelius with Alonzo Robinson, Clerk; Orson P. Mathews and Ralph Warner, with Ruth Parrish and Wallace Parrish as Clerks. Soon after the Ward was again organized, Bishop Parrish began laying the grou¬nd work for a Mountain Green chapel. He enlisted the aid of Alonzo Robinson in drawing up the plans for construction of the building. All available men in the Community donated work-time on the project. The sandstone was cut from a quarry up Dry Creek. James L. Robinson and Edward A. Fer¬nelius remembered handling the dynamite for blasting in the quarry. The blocks were shaped aid hauled to the site for erection of the walls. Harbertson Brothers were the contractors and ward members furnished all the common labor. It was definitely a communtiy project. Ward minutes show that Church was held in the old frame building 20 November 1911, 9 December 1912, and 4 and 18 May 1913. Nowhere could be found the exact date when construction on the new building began. In a Bishop's meeting held, 18 January 1916, the following information was recorded: Prayer by Edwin C. Warner. Business of meeting: Financial situation with Harbertson Brothers. The bill is $2,720.30...have paid total of $1,201.97. Will pay balance as follows: $200 on 19 January 1916; $800 on 1 February 1916; EZRA B. PARRISH JOSEPH ALONZO PARRISH 44 |
