Show JOHN FORD SR. AND SONS-L. WILLIAM, HYRUM, JOSEPH AND JOHN JR. The Ford Families on Gordon Creek 1874 As early as September of 1874 John Ford Sr., a resident and property owner of Centerville, Davis County, expanded his holdings to include land in the west part of Mountain Green, situated on the Weber River in Morgan County. Land became available at this" early date by some individuals selling their property, and by sections of land being sold by the Union Pacific Railroad to help finance the building of the rail lines to the West. Family records note that John Sr. purchased 600 acres of land from Joel Parrish for $900. John Ford's interest in livestock led him to invest in some of this less ex¬pensive land for his stock raising venture. He was the first man to bring blooded sheep, cattle and horses into Centerville, then to the Mountain Green ranch. His stock included Shorthorn cattle and Rambouillet sheep imported from Canada. Several hundred head of sheep and cattle grazed on the hills of Mountain Green. Ogden was a good market for veal and other choice meats. The animals were slaugh¬tered in the evening, then rushed to the market not later than 2 a.m. to insure its being fresh. Meat and livestock were not the only products sold on the Ford ranch.
